One could easily counterargue that, by cosplaying as a building (or something else), they're effectively turning that building into a character. There's more than one way to depict something as anthropomorphic, after all.

On a related note, should non-specific costumes really be tagged cosplay? I'm struggling to understand why these are tagged cosplay and not just costume:

It's not even that they're not cosplaying characters, but that these costumes are to my knowledge completely generic. Generic magician, generic ghost, generic nun, generic witch, generic teacher...

I'm working on trying to tag copyrights and characters on cosplay images where appropriate and I keep getting tripped up by images like these which seem like they should just be in costume.
