Something that has bothered me the entire time I've used this site is that there seems to be no notification system for when somebody replies to your comment or forum post. Am I just overlooking it or does it somehow not exist?

A notification does not exist. To see if someone replied to your comment, the only way to really know is by using the "Search for myself in comments" option under Account.
