This would, of course, also implicate them to amphibian via salamander_(amphibian).

+1, though I thought there was already a small collection of 'mudpuppy' posts, except this one is the only one I could find (even after looking for other spelling/grammar variations of 'mudpuppy' in the Tags section of the website).

Bumping. The tag got incorrectly implicated to salamander. Mudpuppy should be aliased to nectrid, since it's just an informal nickname for same thing.
