Isn't groping more aggressive, sometimes trough clothes, more squeezing kinda deal while fondling is handling things softly?

From what I've seen, most people use the terms interchangably. I suppose they could be separated that way, though.

Most people misuse words often if not constantly. Mario69 is right, groping is generally considered to be more forceful.

Yeah, those have been on my to-do list for years. There's definitely too many similar tags, but it's such a mess that I haven't got around to untangling it. Fondling, caress, rubbing, grope, stroking, etc.
- Grope seems distinct enough to keep, though it overlaps a lot with various *_grab tags (such as crotch_grab).
- Fondling seems too ambiguous. Grope at least implies that someone else is being groped, whereas 'fondle' can apply to either self or to an another character; it has been tagged for plenty of solos. I'd vote for disambiguation, but 8800 posts is probably too much to sort through.
- Caress is less ambiguous than fondling (hasn't been tagged for solos), so I'd keep that one for 'light touching'.
- Rubbing is an another mess that needs to be disambiguated. Mix of grope, various *_grabs (especially breast_grab), masturbation, handjob, etc. Even some bodyjobs.
- Stroking is mostly just handjobs, with some masturbation mixed in. Again, needs to be disambiguated and sorted out to the proper tags.

seem mean the same thing for the most part going by their definitions on wikipedia. their uses thou seem to differ on "consent or non-consent" as well as the amount of force applied("light touch or hard pocking and grabbing")... groping applies generally to the latter in both while fondling applies to the former but may be used interchangeably as a generalization for all touching.

The following is my contextual awareness of how to use the words "fondle" and "grope". Fuck wikis, fuck the dictionary, and fuck the tagging so far. They're all bad.
Groping generally involves squeezing from gripping, grabbing, or pinching. Skin/whatever gets compressed.
Fondling is more "playing with" or "playing over" than firm squeezing. Fondling can be fingering with or without penetration, but more so as foreplay. Lifting or otherwise moving around hanging anatomy (e.g., penis, balls, and breasts) without maintained squeezing is fondling.
A person can fondle themself or another, but only another person can be groped. Whereas *_grab and holding_* suggest a fixed grip, the -ing form of fondle and grope imply a roving hand. Although both fondling and groping can be consensual, they have a stigma implying lack of consent and violation of personal space, with "grope" having the stronger stigma. Neither action is necessarily limited to classical erogenous zones, but they should be for tagging.
I was going to break down how these terms might be properly tagged on here, but after looking at how they've been tagged so far I see they've both been reduced to mere hand contact on any erogenous zone. Totally bastardized usage with no subtlety or understanding of the words.
At this point,
a) invalidate both tags and just use hand_on_*, holding_*, or *_grab instead, since those should overlap with every case of fondling and groping anyway;
OR
b) make up some new umbrella tag for "hand touching sexy place", and alias both tags to it. You'll probably want to disambiguate that tag (via wiki) from maintained actions like handjobs and fingering, and it will still overlap with the * tags mentioned in (a);
OR
c) do (b) but make that umbrella tag either of fondle or grope. Arguably fondle is the broader of the two since, in bastardized usage, it would also encompass softer touches. This is the worst timeline for me, but functionality is most important.
Caress is a character gliding something along something. A feather can be glided across some prized possession, and that could still technically be a caress. Oxford Dictionaries uses "lovingly" and "gentle" as qualifiers, which are good.
Rubbing is probably not worth keeping. In addition to what's already been mentioned, it has also been tagged for frottage and grinding. It looks like a lazy or ignorant catch-all tagged instead of or in addition to tagging more specific acts.
In several cases, rubbing was used instead of through_clothing, which should be brought into common usage. Though, I would leave that wiki's example of penis_through_fly + fellatio to clothed_sex and just have through_clothing be used for sexual acts through fabric barriers, meaning no direct contact.
So invalidate, or alias to rubbing_(disambiguation) and provide a truckload of suggestions.
I found these rubbing posts that are not mistagged like the rest. For such acts, however, rubbing_[body_part] can be tagged instead of rubbing. (And we have mirror *_rub tags too.)
Stroking is also not worth keeping as long as the thing being stroked is a penis, because we should have a more specific tag for all such actions. Can alias to stroking_(disambiguation) and suggest *job tags, masturbation, etc. And if it's not a penis being stroked...? holding_* or *_grab?
