@NotMeNotYou: One of the biggest and most underrated advantages is the fact that you would have nonexplosive ammunition. While the weapon would still overheat, overheating wouldn't lead to cooking off, and for AFVs/ships, no risk of powder explosions.

@NotMeNotYou: Lasers would, however, be very useful for applications like intercepting missiles, which is a huge goal of the tech

They are also used for things like igniting drugrunners' boats. You can start a fire from miles away without being obvious

@Chameloshi: On the other hand I fully expect those lasers to play a huge role in the creation of plasma weapons, use a laser to create the plasma, then use a rail gun mechanism to accelerate the plasma.

Though I'm unsure how useful those will be.

The fact that there are handheld laser pointers that are strong enough to burn stuff gives me hope that scientists will be able to invent a working laser rifle.

@Ratte: I'm still looking but most of them are my colors. Just have to pick the right one.

Fuckin' Weather Channel, I wanna see the Doppler radar which is really super important when you wanna see the scope of the storm bearing down on your area, but that shit don't show up when there's a show on.

Screw the shows, I want the here n' now.
