History really did such an injustice to MordeTwi. The wiki page for the 'morretwi' tag gives a false impression of what the ship was really supposed to be about - and it's no thanks to the popularity of the Airplanes meme and the "Redraw MordeTwi" fad.
If you don't know, MordeTwi didn't become a thing because of the "airplanes in the night sky" drawing, it came way before that; it became a thing when a club/group on DeviantArt had to be made because the ship was getting so much fan-made content, and that was because of a fanfic inadvertently inspiring some people to ship the characters.

MordeTwi is not a "meme ship" or "art portraying the relationship in a melodramatic light" - that's just the Airplanes meme! Rather, it is simply the pairing of Mordecai and Twilight - hence the portmanteau name. And FYI: the "original piece of fan art" was made in 2012, not 2011, and also check its description. "Airplanes" was just a guy trying to contribute to the group.

counterpoint: every cross-ship is a meme, even the decent ones.
actually, every single ship that wasn't part of the original intention of the story is a meme, like-- by definition.

also, you're allowed to edit the tag's wiki if you think you can provide more information or clarify what's already there.
