A console is a panel with controls that interacts with a computer or machine. Most consoles feature or display contents on a screen. Some consoles have a screen integrated with the control panel, while others utilize a separate display screen such as a monitor, or television screen.

Not to be confused with

• comforting - The act of comforting someone experiencing grief, or sadness.

Console types

• arcade_machine - Currently not integrated with the console tag, but it likely will be in the future.
• control_panel - The kinds present in cockpits, and computer terminals. It may or may not be considered a console.
• game_console - The most common type of console. This includes all home and portable gaming consoles.
• handheld_console - This is a small portable console with an integrated display. Currently it is used exclusively for gaming handhelds, but this may not always be true.

Excluded devices

• computer - Unless it is part of a larger terminal, this should not be considered a console.
• laptop - A laptop is just a portable computer.
• Phones, PDAs, and tablets should be excluded from the console tag.
