A mecha or mech is a robot that is operated by a pilot from the inside via a cockpit. Usually these machines act more like vehicles with arms and legs rather than its own autonomous entity though some mechas can switch to autopilot via their on-board computers, or even a full-on artificial intelligence personality, when need be.

Not to be confused with

• A drone which is piloted remotely,
• Power armor which is worn by the operator rather than piloted,
• And a robot which is fully autonomous and doesn't require a pilot.
