Turians were the third race to join the Citadel council after defeating the Krogan during the Krogan Rebellions. Turians have a highly disciplined and militaristic culture, they serve as the Citadel Councils foremost defense against any threat and possess a vast military fleet with allotments for more Dreadnought class ships than any other race. The Turian homeworld of Palaven was metal poor and as such had a weak magnetic field. This meant that more solar radiation was able to pass through the atmosphere, the result was that Turians (and native life on Palaven) adopted a mechanism to create metallic exoskeletons as a form of protection from the harsher environment. Turian exoskeletons contain small amounts of thulium.
