An alien species from the Mass Effect video game universe.

Varren are an omnivorous dog-like race of scaled beasts that are originally native to the Krogan homeworld of Tuchanka. Since that world's collapse the Varren have been taken and spread throughout the galaxy. Varren are highly adaptable pack hunters who breed rapidly and can be vicious when challenged.

Varren share a love-hate relationship with many species. Some races value them as pets or companions, while others refuse to acknowledge them as anything more than pests. Batarians and Krogans are both known for keeping Varren as war animals, breeding specific traits and fighting them in arena's for sport.
