Quarians are a race of nomads who travel the galaxy in search of technology and support to bolster their aging and failing Migrant Fleet. The Quarian homeworld of Rannoch was conquered by the Artificial Life Forms known as Geth, created by the Quarians themselves. The Citadel Council refused to aid the Quarians and in fact stripped them of their diplomatic status as punishment for unleashing an AI threat into the Galaxy. Without aid the Quarians were forced to migrate from system to system hoping to find a world they could colonize though permission to do so from the Citadel Council was unlikely to come if they did. Quarians had always had a relatively weak immune system and years aboard starships in sterile e-suits did nothing to help them. Quarians are unable to remove their suits without the high risk of infection, even the assistance of modern medical treatments such as immuno-boosters and antibiotics can do little to aid them. As such physical contact between Quarians is limited and at times dangerous.
