The Hammer and Sickle is a symbol of Communism, the crossed hammer and sickle represent solidarity between labourers (the proletariat): the hammer represents industrial workers, and the sickle represents rural agricultural workers (sometimes "the peasantry", in historical contexts).

The Hammer and Sickle is frequently associated with the Soviet Union, which featured the symbol on its flag, and to a lesser extent, with the People's Republic of China. However, the symbol is not inherently tied to any specific country, and is used by communist parties and organizations across the globe.
