Species: foo dog
The popular western name for Chinese guardian lions, variations of which also appear in Japan as komainu and shisa. Though considered lions in China, in Japan they became increasingly dog-like over time, and are thus often known as lion dogs. Due to this variety of different depictions, they can differ significantly from one another morphologically.
