Burberry is a British luxury fashion brand headquartered in London. It was founded in 1856 by its namesake Thomas Burberry and offers a variety of overcoats, leather accessories and footwear. Its most known product is the trench coat, which the fashion house invented and was originally produced for British soldiers during WWI to fight in the trenches, which is where it got its name. Burberry's signature design is a nova-check pattern named the Burberry check, which is found on most of their clothes, particularly on the inner lining of overcoats.
Between 2001 and 2005, Burberry became associated with chav and football hooligan culture due to counterfeiting of the trademark check pattern and celebrities associated with chav culture wearing their product—a stigma that persists to this day.
