telegram sticker

This tag is for posts that were created for use as "stickers" (basically extra-large custom emojis) on the instant messaging service Telegram. They can be static, animated, or video. Stickers are frequently found under sticker sets made by Telegram users.

Telegram has strict requirements for stickers:

  • All stickers must have a resolution of 512 pixels on one side, with the other side being 512 pixels or less (animations must be exactly 512 by 512 pixels).
  • Static stickers must be uploaded in PNG or WebP formats (PNG stickers are converted to WebP by Telegram).
  • Video stickers must be in WebM format encoded in VP9, must not contain audio streams, have a frame rate no higher than 30 FPS, and must be no larger than 256 KB in file size.
  • Animation stickers are in a different format that's exclusive to Telegram called TGS and use vector animations. They are made with a vector image program, Adobe After Effects, and Bodymovin-TG, an After Effects plugin forked from the Bodymovin plugin. Animations must have a frame rate of 60 FPS, must be looped, cannot use certain After Effects functions (listed in the link above), and must not exceed 64 KB after rending in Bodymovin.
  • Both animation stickers and video stickers cannot be longer than three seconds.

eSix accepts VP9-encoded WebM videos and thus can accept Telegram video stickers as is. Animation stickers have to be converted to WebM or MP4 prior to upload. WebP is not accepted on eSix; static stickers should be converted to PNG or must have been uploaded by the artist or sticker owner in the PNG format elsewhere. eSix users can "pool"/pools together sticker sets uploaded here.

The separate messaging app Discord also has its own custom stickers feature with different restrictions, and thus Telegram stickers can also be used as Discord stickers with some edits and conversions.

  • Discord stickers can be static stickers in the JPEG or PNG formats or animated in the GIF and APNG formats, with animated stickers being able to have frame rates up to 60 FPS (note that the GIF format cannot be animated faster than 50 FPS due to the limitations of the format). Discord recommends that PNG and APNG be used.
  • Discord stickers are smaller; they must be exactly 320 by 320 pixels and cannot be larger than 512 KB in file size. Discord will, however, resize JPEG, PNG, and animated GIF stickers upon upload.
  • Discord stickers are not grouped into sets and can only be used in the Discord server they're uploaded to unless the user has a Discord Nitro subscription. A servers can have up to 60 stickers uploaded depending on its boost level (five free sticker slots, plus ten slots at Level 1, plus another 15 slots at Level 2, and plus another 30 slots at level 3).
