Species: dormouse
The dormouse (family Gliridae, sometimes referred to as Myoxidae or Muscardinidae) is a small mouse-like rodent found in Africa, Europe, and Asia. They are nocturnal and known for long periods of hibernation, hence the name "dormouse" which likely stems from "dormir" ("to sleep").
Only the hazel dormouse is native to the British Isles, thus this species is commonly referred to simply as "dormouse" locally. However, this tag is used to refer to the family as a whole.
