Enver Gortash, born Enver Flymm, Epithet: Archduke of Baldur's Gate is one of the 3 major antagonists of Baldur's Gate 3.
Enver Flymm was once the son of a pair of humble shoemakers, Drago and Sally Flymm. As a child, his parents sold him into slavery when they went into debt running their business. As a young man, when he escaped slavery he became a black market arms dealer and slaver himself, supplanting "The Knights of the Shield" as the lead black market dealer in Baldur's Gate. During his rise to power, he met and befriended a young Karlach Cliffgate and hired her as a bodyguard before selling her to Zariel, Archdevil of Avernus the First Layer of Hell. The latter of whom used her as a guinea pig to test new infernal weapons and technology, notably the Infernal Engine which was used to create an army of colossal robot soldiers known as The Steel Watch to serve as enforcers of Gortash's will.
Enver Gortash is the Chosen of Bane, God of Tyranny, Hatred, and Strife and leader of The Dead Three alongside Myrkul, God of Necromancy and Death, and Bhaal, God of Blood and Murder.
Enver Gortash is described in game as a handsome young human man. However, when met in person this is not the case. While handsome in a rugged, playful, or austere way, Gortash's face is covered in wrinkles, scars, bags under his eyes, and choppy blue hair. Gortash's style of dress is extravagant and reflective of his wealth; his wide open collar displaying gilded dragons, intricately designed gold gauntlets, and noticeably, bright red and pointy steel-tipped jackboots.
Spoilers for "The Dark Urge"'s story
It is revealed that Enver Gortash is the one who initiated the Absolute Plot as part of a larger scheme to make The Dead Three stronger and the other Gods of the Faerunian Pantheon weaker. At the direction of Bane, Gortash sought out the chosen of Bhaal in the Temple of Bhaal beneath the city of Baldur's Gate. At the time, the chosen of Bhaal was The Dark Urge. Gortash and Durge agreed to work together and they became best friends, possibly even lovers. Together, they invaded Mephistopheles' Vault of Wonders in Cania, 8th Layer of Hell and stole the Crown of Karsus before removing its stones and placing it upon the head of the Elder Brain hidden under Moonrise Towers. They then convinced the immortal General Kethric Thorm, to join in on the plot. However, The Dark Urge was betrayed by Orin the Red who became the new chosen of Bhaal and began plotting on literally backstabbing the other Chosen. Orin's actions created distrust and disharmony between the Chosen resulting in the Elder Brain beginning to liberate itself from their control, threatening the end of the entire world. For this reason, Gortash actively dislikes Orin who stresses him out and is overjoyed at the return of The Dark Urge.
