awapuhi

Zingiber zerumbet is a tropical plant in the ginger family. It is usually called "shampoo ginger" or "pinecone ginger" in English and "awapuhi" in Hawaiian. Its distinctive scarlet flower buds take a club-like or conical shape similar to a pine cone. The juice squeezed from these fleshy flowers is used as a shampoo and conditioner for hair.
