Species: lutei

The Realm of Lutei

Their Realm

The "realm" of Lutei is actually a large island not terribly far from Equestria. It is dubbed the Vanishing Isle, as it seems to disappear the moment you start trying to look for it. Really, it is just the natural aura of the island disguising itself from those who might want to pilfer it, as the island bears the most delicious fruits in the land of ponies. These fruits are this island's main export, but they must be taken to the mainland of Equestria before selling in order to keep their island a secret. However, if a pony is in need, they might just find themselves washing up on it. The Lutei simply refer to their island as Luteria.
Their island's aura almost makes the island a separate place entirely from the rest of the world. A wide river cuts the island into two halves, but in the middle of this river is a circular plaza full of various shops for the entire population of Luteria to converge into. It is raised slightly above the water to allow the river's rise and fall and branches off into two different plazas, both on opposite sides that follow the river and are connected to the main plaza by bridges. The separate plazas are held up by pillars that hilt into the mud below. Vines and such grow off the sides of the plazas. The main plaza, of course, is a "main street" type of place with shops and such. One of the branches leads to a schoolhouse for young Lutei, while the other branch is usually used for competitions, fireworks, and other island-wide events. The Lutei ruler's castle wraps slightly around the edge of this plaza in a half-circle. It is more tall than large. Lutei from both sides of the island have the chance to meet with their kin, and neither one is inherently hostile towards the other, although Frigus Lutei have a harder time venturing into Calidum Lutei territory than vice-versa. In the middle of "main street", there shines a bright, rainbow-coloured beacon at night, affixed to the center of a grand fountain, that is meant to lead lost Lutei to the centre of the island.
On one side of their island, the climate is warm, with a dormant volcano rising up out of the sea. It bears the majority of the fruits of the island, along with flowers, with a patch of rainforest separating the clearing where the Lutei themselves live from the beaches and the volcano. Many paths lead through the forest, however, and getting lost is rare for a grown Lutei. Inside the volcano is a public lava bath for the use of Calidum Lutei - this bath reaches temperatures high enough to eliminate any trace of water.
On the other side, there lies a rather chilly climate. A ring of icy mountains rises up from that side of the ocean. The rainforest ring of the warm climate breaks off into spruce trees, which gradually get higher until forming the snowy-topped mountains that loom over the village of Frigus Lutei below. When it rains on the warm side of the island, it snows on the cool side. Inside the mountain is a lake full of liquid nitrogen, which Frigus Lutei love to swim in. This lake is half a mile underground, and because of that, there exists a convenient rail system designed to rush Lutei to their destinations. They hold many of their games in the underground ice caverns, and have a love of Equestrian hockey.
Both types of Lutei live in the same basic-shaped homes, but Frigus Lutei choose to form their homes from stone and brick rather than wood and moss as the Calidum Lutei use.
Lutei love to visit the mainland, and as such, there are boat trips each day and night at 10am and 10pm respectively to bring Lutei to and from their island, along with a stock of fruits and other exports to keep up their island's costs.
Pegasus Lutei are able to fly back and forth as they please, as the distance is not too long that it will stress their wings.
Some Lutei end up staying in Equestria for various reasons. These reasons are typically because they fell in love, they are defective and thus an outcast of Lutei society and cannot handle that, or they simply enjoy life better in Equestria.

Basic Info

Lutei are a offshoot species of pony. These ponies are much fluffier than normal ponies, and slightly smaller.
Lutei can also come as many subspecies, all of which are of the same rarity.
Earth ponies are, of course, normal.
Unicorns, as a trait, will have magical aura that will match their eye colour. Their horns are curved.
Pegasus Lutei's outer wing feathers will be discoloured, at least partially. Pegasus Lutei have incredible dexterous control over their wings and tend to use them as a pair of "hands".
Only one alicorn is known in the realm of the Lutei, and he is their ruler. Lutei cannot be born or magically become an alicorn through any means, at all, ever, even in a breeding session with the king.
There is an equal balance of male and female Lutei, although there is a genderless variant of Lutei that is a very rare genetic mishap.
Lutei will always have Latin names unless raised in a non-Lutei family. This will usually have something to do with their personality, or perhaps just their parents' personal preference, though whether these names are normal or abnormal is up to the parents.

Physical Features

These apply only to common Lutei. For uncommon and rare Lutei, please see the traits sections at the bottom.

Their tails resemble a lizard's tail, and are incredibly long.
Large ears with plenty of fluff inside them. These are generally almost twice the size of the Lutei's head. Sometimes, the Lutei ears develop too fragile, and will hang down instead of stick up, akin to rabbit ears. Clipped ears are a sign of a Defective Lutei. (ex: i.imgur.com/JBTlOFb.jpg@ and i.imgur.com/BRgFObw.jpg@)
Lutei will ALWAYS either have a warm (red, yellow, orange, pink, violet, etc) or cool (blue, green, teal, purple, etc) colour scheme, with the exception of their eyes, which will always be the opposite of their main colour scheme, and their coats, which will be white with a tint of their mane colour. Their manes will have either one or two colours in it. Black will never be seen on a Lutei. Their inner ears and hooves (if male) will normally be grey.
The separate Lutei species are known as Calidum (warm) Lutei and Frigus (cool) Lutei.
Example: Your Lutei has a blue/green mane and tail along with the same cool-coloured markings. It will then have a warm-coloured eye, such as yellow.

  • Fuchsia and lime green can be seen on both Calidum and Frigus Lutei because they are both neutral colours on the colour wheel. Variants with more red/yellow will be seen on a Calidum, while variants with more purple/green will be seen more on a Frigus.

Lutei will usually have markings on their body, such as spots and stripes on their backs, tails, or hooves. Tail, back, and leg markings are the most common, while facial markings tend to show up less. Freckles count in this category. Male Lutei can also grow facial hair, though it only grows on their chin, and it will take on the darkest colour in their mane.
Lutei do not have cutie marks.
Short or medium length manes are more common than long manes, not including where the mane connects to the pony's chest or back fur.
Lutei tails can be thick or thin, long or short, though they will always be at least the length of the Lutei's leg.
Female exclusive: Fur around the neck. Will sometimes connect to the Lutei's mane to form a sort of lion's mane, and will also sometimes trail down the Lutei's stomach.
Female exclusive: Fluff on the back of each hoof.
Male exclusive: Fur along the back. Will connect to their mane.
Male exclusive: Fetlock hooves. The exposed hoof will either be white or grey.

Accessories and Clothing

Lutei, despite being feral creatures (with the exception of anthro Lutei), love to dress up and put on little accessories to make themselves look cool, cute, or anything else. Of course, as with everything else, Calidum and Frigus Lutei have different opinions on fashion. However, both sides have a liking for piercings, collars, glasses, and other such year-round accessories.
Calidum: Their side of the island is normally very tropical and warm. Due to this, accessories such as flower crowns, other flowery accessories, vines wrapped around them, leis, ponytails, sun hats, bows, and other cute, summer/spring-type accessories are found most commonly on a Calidum Lutei. Calidum beds are usually lined with flowers and soft moss.
Frigus: Although these Lutei aren't affected by the cold, they do enjoy bundling up in scarves, wool hats, hoodies, sweaters, socks, and blankets. Other autumn/winter-esque clothes and accessories can also be seen worn by a Frigus Lutei. Many Frigus Lutei have beds layered with tons of soft clothing and accessories, and love to bury themselves into the piles they create.

Diet

Lutei are omnivorous, meaning they eat both meat and fruits. However, most Lutei are born without fangs, so most choose to eat fruit. Their primary prey consists of small animals such as mice and rabbits - Frigus Lutei, since only arctic rabbits live in their side of Luteria, generally have a good supply of fish caught at the beaches. Their stomachs are very thick and acidic, allowing them to digest even old meat, though they hate the taste of maggots.

Behavior

There is no set temperament for the species, although females are usually calmer, while males tend to express more emotion.
Lutei, despite not having cutie marks, tend to master only one talent through their lives and are very proud of that talent.
Lutei, for the most part, have a strong sense of friendship and love. It takes them a while to grow apart from their family, also known as a "kindle". A kindle of Lutei will normally consist of parents and their kits.
Lutei have a sense of conformity to their species. They, when in a pack situation, will gang up together despite any differences they might've had before, although those differences and grudges will come back later. They do tend to keep these grudges for a while, especially if a promise is broken. Even Defective Lutei will have these traits.
Lutei use their long tails for swinging on branches, mainly. Thicker tails can be used for self-defense, while thinner tails can be used to grab objects or can be used as a whip. Many longer-tailed Lutei have a knack for sleeping upside-down, akin to a bat, with their tail wrapped around a tree branch.

Defective Lutei

Lutei with this disorder have no sense of conformity, and instead of sticking with one talent, they will jump from one to another, a bit like ADHD, and will sometimes have slight mood swings. It doesn't develop often, and Lutei with this disorder most likely will not pass it down; it is impossible to have a hybrid species of Lutei with this disorder. The Lutei species in general refers to these Lutei as Defective Lutei, and are signified by having the sides of their ears clipped the moment these Lutei are confirmed as "defective". Defective Lutei are seen as outcasts. (example: i.imgur.com/BRgFObw.jpg@)

Non-Pony Lutei

In the real, non-Equestrian world, there exists a counterpart to Lutei. They have the same name, though these Lutei are more meat-eaters than fruit-eaters, and the same traits, behaviour, everything except one thing - the way they look. These Lutei are more canine in shape, with pawed front legs and hooved back legs.
These Lutei also come in anthro form in the furry universe.

Mating/Breeding

Female Lutei go in heat once a month for one week (replacing periods). During this time, a female Lutei may jump at their lover, if any, and attempt to force the male into copulating with her. Males were gifted with a good bit of strength, and thanks to that, non-consenting male Lutei can shove off their female partners, although this doesn't always work. A female's heat cycle is different for each Lutei, of course - not all Lutei go into heat at once. Two female Lutei in heat at the same time will normally not be seen for the duration of their heat.
It is incredibly rare, because of a Lutei's inherent pride, that a female will cheat on their chosen partner. To do so is to disrespect their own species, and their devotion to their species prevents them from disrespecting it.
A Lutei can only become pregnant if the male consents to the female's heat - sex any other time will not produce a kit.
Female Lutei without partners will actively seek out another female in heat, allowing both to relieve themselves, as the pain of not releasing is nigh unbearable.
Rarely, a male will be born with the heat gene. This, unfortunately, also makes the male impotent, although it does make an excellent target for a female in heat who doesn't want to bear kits.
A female's heat lets off a very potent scent that serves to seduce males. The male still has every ability to say "no", however, though it may be easier or harder depending on the Lutei.
When a female is in heat, she will seek out her male partner, normally by scent. Heat females have an impeccable tracking ability. This allows them to seek out their partner and lure them away. Once in a more secluded area, the female will "attack" their partner, normally consisting of humping, grinding, and biting. This is the male's chance to get away, if he so chooses. If he consents, the male will twine his tail around the female's as a signal, and she will willingly release him and get into the mating position. This gives the male the best access, though some prefer to do it other ways. The male will wrap his tail around the female's body, and the female will do the same to her mate, holding each other in place during mating. It can go on for up to a half hour. Male Lutei have a knot at the base of their penis that causes them to "lock" in place with the female. It swells up to tie them together even tighter than they already were. The two will be locked together for as long as it takes, and once the male has finished, his knot deflates and his penis retracts back into its sheath. This mating ritual will happen at least two more times during the female's cycle, and almost guarantees kits.
It is very rare that a Calidum and a Frigus Lutei will become partners, as it would be almost impossible for one Lutei species to adapt to the temperatures of the other's. Lutei who do form cross-island couples will instead sail to the mainland of Equestria to live their lives in a much more neutral climate.
Lutei have no concept of sexuality, and thus will love whomever their heart tells them to. This, of course, makes it hard for them to understand when a straight pony does not return their advances if they are both the same sex. Beings as Lutei in heterosexual partnerships tend to have many offspring, same-sex partnerships don't make much of an impact on their population.
A straight Lutei couple have a tendency to have up from 3 to 5 of these kits.
If the two parents have kits they do not want, they usually send those unwanted kits out to be adopted by a same-sex family of Lutei, as those Lutei families cannot have children of their own.
Newborns are born pure white, with their eyes grey, until their colours start coming in. Their subspecies depends on their mother, or in the case of interspecies breeding, whichever parent is the Lutei.
Lutei have chances of having hybrid babies. If, for example, a Lutei breeds with a plant pony, their offspring will be a Lutei with a plant tail, and so on. However, no breeding pair will result in any trademarks of Lutei, such as their long tail or their large ears, to be missing from the offspring. However, the offspring will have more traits from the female in the breeding pair than the male, resulting in either a Lutei-dominant or Lutei-recessive hybrid respectively.
Markings are usually given partly from the mother and partly from the father. There is always, however, room for the newborn to be born with rarer markings than the parents have, and passing down already rare markings typically will not happen. Uncommon markings being passed down has a chance, although very low, to occur.
Lutei can breed with ANY species. Not just ponies. Anything can be a hybrid.
