Barazoku, often shortened to "bara", is used to describe a post featuring erotic and pornographic imagery of particularly masculine muscular, chubby, or overweight male characters. Note: Due to the nature of art, pornography, and the consensus of this site's community, Bara is not exclusive to male characters, but instead to a masculine phenotype.

The tag is named for the genre of gay manga generally targeted at gay men, which features and glorifies masculine, muscular, and frequently hairy male bodies. Outside of Japan, this term was adapted to more broadly describe any erotic imagery focused on muscular or overweight masculine men. Often synonymous with the "Bear" body type in gay culture.

When using this tag, it is useful to combine it with more specific terms like muscular, slightly chubby or even overweight whenever possible.

Physical Traits

"Bara" characters typically display some or all of the following features:

• square jaws or generally squarish head shapes
• facial hair
• body hair, especially chest hair
• big chest
• big muscles, especially big pecs
• musclegut — a combination of chubby belly and defined muscles
• overweight_male, often can mean outright fat or obese
• sometimes prominent nipples or moobs

Note that not all sexual images of muscular male characters fit under the "barazoku theme"

Clothing

Barazoku-themed artwork frequently feature characters fitting the features (as described above) wearing clothing that is relatively skimpy, and which accentuate the character's masculine traits.
