The Cultural Revolution, full name "Proletarian Cultural Revolution", briefly referred to as the Cultural Revolution, refers to the movement initiated and led by Maoedong from May 16, 1966, to October 1976 in China. Mao's intention for launching this great revolution was to prevent the of capitalism, maintain the purity of the party, and seek a path for socialist construction suited to China. He believed that there were revisionist tendencies within the central committee, and that country and the party faced the realistic danger of capitalist restoration. Only by taking decisive measures, openly and comprehensively mobilizing the masses from bottom to top, could the dark side of in the party and state be exposed, and the power usurped by the bourgeois roadists be reclaimed. The reason why this great revolution is prefixed with "culture" is because it triggered by criticism in the cultural field.
