Trunks (トランクス Torankusu) is a character from the anime/manga series Dragon Ball. He is the second human/saiyan hybrid and the first and only son of Prince Vegeta and Bulma Brief.

Their are two version of Trunks: Future Trunks and Present Trunks.

Future Trunks is a time traveler from around Age 780. In this time, Dr. Gero released Androids 17 and 18 who killed their master, then the Z Fighters, and after toying with him for many years Gohan. Because the Dragon Balls were lost with the death of Piccolo, Trunks was sent back in time using a Time Machine build by his mother in the hopes that he would be able to change the future and prevent the Androids from destroying the world. Unfortunately, the design of Bulma's Time Machine was flawed, instead of traveling back in time and altering the timeline, Trunks' Time Machine creates new alternate timelines based on where he goes to and whatever changes he ultimately makes. Trunks decides to use this to instead train with the Z-Warriors so he can become strong enough to defeat the Androids on his own which leads to the events of The Android Saga and The Cell Saga. Future Trunks later returns in the "Future Trunks Saga" to enlist the aid of the Z Fighters against Goku Black.

This version of Trunks is often depicted as a slim, yet muscular build, blue eyes, and long lavender/purple hair. He frequently uses a longsword which he carries on his back. He has the ability to turn into a Super Saiyan.

Future Trunks has a noticeably different approach to fighting compared to most other characters in Dragon Ball Z and Super. Because he comes from a Timeline where he has always had to fight to survive and there are no Dragon Balls to cheat death, Trunks is extremely pragmatic about fighting, often avoiding giving enemies a chance to transform or charge their strongest attacks and trying to take them out as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The other version of Trunks in the series is known as Present Trunks. This version of Trunks is the one from the main timeline and is raised by both Vegeta and Bulma. Because Bulma is one of the richest people on earth, Present Trunks is somewhat of a spoiled Child Emperor. He is however considered a martial arts prodigy, having achieved Super Saiyan at the around the age 7 and having a power level comparable to that of Frieza. This version of Trunks has blue hair styled in a bowl cut. His best friend is Son Goten. Over the years and the course of the series, he tends to grow up to resemble Future Trunks with blue hair instead of lavender hair, albeit with a very different personality and fighting style.
