The Smashing Pumpkins are an alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1988 by Billy Corgan, James Iha, D'arcy Wretzky and Jimmy Chamberlin. The band is known for its diverse sound featuring elements of heavy metal, shoegaze, dream pop, gothic rock, psychedelic rock and grunge. They became popular during the 1990s with albums such as Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. They disbanded in 2000 but reunited in 2006.
