Character: kokono kotaro
Kokono Kōtarō (九幸太郎) is a major character in Amialido Amdodo and one of the titular armadillo's best friends. He's a nine-tailed kitsune (presented as a distinct species from a typical fox which he refers to as vulpes novem) from Osaka, Japan who moved to the small town of Shellington Grove, Texas in 1952. He's seldom seen without a cowboy hat adorned with a sheriff's star and hoshi no tama — a jewel that contains his soul — in the center. As one could probably guess from the hat, he has a love of classical Westerns, and originally learned English from them.
Though Kotaro has a goofy and laid-back personality, he's also a philosopher who postulated six pataphysical laws to how the private autonomous existence of the cartoon characters — a concept he calls fugen (不原) — and the will of the author shaping continuity — a concept he calls hahou (波崩) — operate and interact. He began studying these out of a desire to understand the extreme discrepancies between what he remembered and what Amialido remembered about his late older brother Koichi, whom Amialido had encountered in World War II.
