Standard style (Left) v. Alternate style (Right)

A different hairstyle (often drastically so) exists in contrast from a character's usual appearance. This often happens in fan-made materials with series characters that usually keep their hair exactly the same color, length, and style for years at a time (save for the occasional special episode and/or special comic). An individual may have their hair cut significantly shorter or longer than normal (or even become bald), have their hair stylized into a different hairstyle, or experience huge changes in hair coloration as some examples of alternate_hairstyles.
