Sebastian Michaelis is the deuteragonist of Black Butler. He is a demon summoned by the cult who killed Ciel Phantomhive's family; however, the cult accidentally bound him to Ciel's service. He now acts as Ciel's butler while assisting him in his quest for revenge, with the understanding that he will eventually gain Ciel's soul in exchange. As a demon, Sebastian is a magic user with superhuman physical and mental capabilities, though he is usually forced to limit himself to maintain his guise as an ordinary human. He also really likes cats.

Though a demon, Sebastian appears as a human with pale skin and black hair, and sometimes with slit pupils when he is displaying his demon powers. The original Black Butler anime reveals him to have a monster-like "true form", but only glimpses are seen.

Not to be confused with the dog Sebastian from the same series.
