Species: pyroar

Pyroar (Japanese: カエンジシ Kaenjishi) is a dual-type Fire/Normal Pokémon. Both Pyroar and its pre-evolved form Litleo are the only Pokémon with this type combination.

Pyroar is a quadruped, leonine Pokémon. It is mostly dark brown with light brown legs, tail tip, chest, and face. Pyroar's irises are tinted azure with black pupils, and its nose is the same dark brown as the main area of its body.

Pyroar's other body features are dependent on gender. The males are visibly taller and bulkier than the females, as with real lions, although the Pokédex does not make the distinction and instead classifies them under the same height and weight. A male Pyroar has a large, dominantly red mane with gold streaks forming a pattern resembling the Daimonji symbol 大. The shape also resembles the symbol for fire 火. In addition to this, the tuft on the end of their tail has a noticeable split, and the fur ruffs on their back legs spread out. In contrast, a female has a long, gold and red mane extending from its forehead to the whole length of its body which, unlike the male's mane, does not obscure its ears. The female's tail tuft and back legs do not have spread-apart tips like those of the males. Additionally, though the male Pyroar has a chevron-shaped nose in its official artwork and in Pokémon Battle Trozei, all other merchandise, game, and anime artwork shows it with a triangular shaped nose, similar to that of the female.

Litleo and Pyroar are notable for their unique gender ratio; only one in every eight Litleo/Pyroar is male. This contrasts the universal ratio for all starter Pokémon, where seven of every eight individuals are male.
