Posts depicting relatives engaging in sexual or romantic activities with each other that do not constitute true incest are typically referred to as pseudo-incest. Generally speaking, if inbreeding cannot occur, then it is classified as such.

Types

• Foster/Adoptive Incest - By law, sexual/romantic activities between adopted family members is considered incest but is not true incest as participants are not biologically related thus inbreeding is unlikely.
• Artificial Incest - Sexual/Romantic relations between creator and creation or between creations from the same lineage.
• Synthetic Artificial Incest - Relations towards inorganic beings such as robots, golems, and digital creatures. Although it could be argued that true incest can still occur depending on the creation process involved.
• Biological Artificial Incest - However things can get muddy when genetic manipulation is involved such as the case with clones and other artificial creatures. Due to this, inbreeding is highly likely depending on the genetic donors involved.
• Interdimensional Incest - Sexual/Romantic relations between a character and their relative's interdimensional counterpart or an interdimensional counterpart of themselves (selfcest). Since they're likely biologically similar to each other, inbreeding is likely to occur and thus could be considered true incest. Although it could be argued that this is not so as the participants involved came from separate (unrelated and yet similar) lineages. These types of relations often occur in a square crossover story.
• Stand-in Incest - Romantic/Sexual activity between a character and a stand-in of a relative. Examples include masturbating to an inanimate object of a relative (such as a photo or a doll), a romantic/sexual partner roleplaying/disguised as a known family member, or an unrelated romantic/sexual partner who bares resemblance to a relative.
• Incest Through Reincarnation - A character having sex or romance with a biologically unrelated partner who is a reincarnation of a deceased family member.
• Incest Through Possession - A character having sex or romance with a biologically unrelated partner who is being possessed by a family member.
