giseigo

Meaning words that mimic voices, it is a type of symbolic word used in the Japanese language to represent vocalizations. It is a subset of giongo. These words are used frequently along side gitaigo.

Examples:

ガーゴー / がーごー / gaagoo / the sound of snoring

グス / ぐす / gusu / the sound of light sobbing

ザワザワ / ざわざわ / zawazawa / the sound of a lively crowd

スザッ / すざっ / suza / a gasp

テヘ / てへ / tehe / a nervous giggle

モー / もー / moo / a cow's moo

ボソ / ぼそ / boso / the sound of muttering or whispering
