coif
A coif is a close fitting unisex cap that covers the top, back and sides of the head.
The chainmail version of the headwear, known as a mail coif, goes all the way down to the collar region, covering the throat, neck and parts of the upper torso.
Not to be confused with an aventail which is a curtain of chainmail on a helmet.
