Don't Hug Me I'm Scared (often abbreviated as DHMIS) is a British surrealist musical comedy horror web and television series created by Becky Sloan, Joe Pelling, and Baker Terry. The series consists of a short six-episode web series that was released from 29 July 2011 to 19 June 2016 on YouTube, and a television series in 2022 on All 4 and Channel 4. The series incorporates puppetry, live action, stop motion, traditional animation, flash animation, clay animation, and computer animation.
Each episode follows a typical format in which the three main characters are spending time with each other and while doing something a nearby inanimate object will come to life and teach them about abstract concepts to help them solve certain problems. This often leads to a musical number, a sudden change in animation style, and an often surreal, disturbing, and dark turn half way through the sequence.
The show primarily stars 3 characters:
- Red Guy - A tall and red humanoid with a calm and mature personality. Known for having long red hair that completely obscures his head like an upside down mop. He is also the creator of the show in the web series.
- Yellow Guy - A dimwitted young boy with yellow skin, blue hair, and blue overalls. Yellow Guy's father Roy is the producer of the show and a farmer.
- Duck - A green mallard duck with a bright yellow beak wearing a brown tweed jacket and pants in the tv series.
