aster (flower)
Aster is a genus of daisy-like perennial flowers in the family Asteraceae. There are roughly 180 species of aster. All, but one belong to Eurasia, with Aster alpinus being the only species native to North America. Many North American species that once belonged to the Aster genus were moved to other related genera, and may still carry the Aster common name.
