A limousine (often shortened to 'limo') is a luxury car with a partition between the driver's compartment up front and the passenger's compartment in back. The tradition of limousines extends from rich people who were able to employ personal drivers for their carriages.

The association with wealth, luxury, and power continues into the modern day, with limos often used by heads of state, or hired by individuals for special occasions such as weddings or parties.

Although stretch limousines are commonly associated with the term, many types of non-stretch limo are in use.
