
Species: kangaroo mouse
"Kangaroo mouse" refers to a small genus containing two species of New-World desert-dwelling hopping rodents: the pale kangaroo mouse of California and Nevada, and the dark kangaroo mouse found from Idaho through Utah. They are heteromyid rodents unrelated to the mouse (and other murids) or dipodid rodents. They are found in the same subfamily, Dipodomyinae, as the more better-known kangaroo rat.
