Hornet is the defender of the kingdom of Hallownest. Born from a 'dalliance' between the Pale King and Herrah the Beast, she is a skilled warrior who uses a needle and thread in battle. She seeks a way to end the infection and return Hallownest to its former glory.

Her alias, 'The Gendered Child', refers to the fact that she is not a vessel. The Vessels, who were hollowed out by Void, have no identity, and therefore no gender. Vessels are referred to in-game as "it" whenever a pronoun would be used, while Hornet is always "she".
