Species: mosasauroid
Mosasaurs (Mosasauroidea) were a superfamily of marine reptiles existing during the same time as dinosaurs, but were not dinosaurs themselves and instead likely evolved from aquatic lizards. They existed during the cretaceous period, about 101-66 million years ago, the last 20 million years of which they dominated the prehistoric waters following the extinction of plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs. They went extinct during the K-Pg extinction event (K-T event) at the end of the cretaceous period.
