post #655212 post #387572 post #1768718
Pterosaurs (Pterosauria) were an order or clade of flying reptiles existing during the same time as dinosaurs, but were not dinosaurs themselves. They were the earliest vertebrates to have evolved powered flight, known for their long membranous wings. Early species also sported toothed jaws and often long tails while later species had dramatically reduced tails and some lacking teeth. Many species were also covered in a hair-like filaments called pycnofibers.
