The original polearm. The spear is as simple as it gets: a shaft - usually of wood - with a pointed head on the end. It's primary purpose is to let the user stab an opponent from a safer distance. It can also be thrown, to strike opponent from even farther away.

The spear is very probably the single most used weapon in the history of warfare - every single polearm variant, as well as the bayonet, evolved from the spear.

Types

• pike - A spear with a longer shaft.
• lance - A spear made for mounted cavalry.
• javelin - A throwing spear.
