Species: crinoid
Crinoids (also known as comatulids, feather stars, or sea lilies) are a species of marine animal in the echinoderm family. They come in 2 body forms, usually determined by age: those attached to a stalk and those unstalked. Their environments can include shallow bodies of water and/or intense ocean depths.
They are known for their top mouths surrounded by tentacle-like feeding arms. Like other echinoderms, their fivefold symmetry is common, though often many sea lilies have many more than five limbs.
Not to be confused with
- flora_fauna - they are animals in themselves, and are not a type of plant despite their plant-like resemblance.
