In Homestuck, underling is the collective name for the various monsters that act as the enemies of the supernatural video game Sburb. As Sburb players "prototype" their sprites, underlings will change accordingly, gaining new abilities and changing their appearances. For example, a sprite prototyped with a doll resembling a cephalopod princess results in underlings wearing princess attire and possessing tentacles. When killed, underlings disappear and drop "grist", resources used to construct items within Sburb.
