Anatomy definitions
Torso

The torso can be defined as the part of the body that the limbs, and head are attached to. It is a broad region that includes the back, chest (thorax), abdomen, and pelvis (hips). It most commonly refers to the region between the neck, and the pelvic region.

  • Back

- The region of the torso located on the backside of a character beneath the shoulder / neck region and extending all the way down to the butt. The tail is usually representative of the border between the butt and the lower back.

  • Chest

- The front upper region of the torso extending down from the shoulder region to the stomach / abdomen. Notable features includes pecs on male body types, and breasts on female body types.

  • Sides

- The region of the torso in between the back and front of a character. This does not include the pelvic region.

Abdomen

The abdominal region is part of the torso occupying the space between the chest (thorax), and the pelvis. The abdominal cavity contains the guts (intestines, stomach). In terms of insect anatomy, the abdomen has a very distinctive look compared to most other animals.

  • Stomach / Belly (Abdomen)

- The region of the torso underneath the chest containing the navel. In this sense stomach doesn't refer to the organ, but the area of the body containing the abdominal cavity. Belly refers to the same area, but generally only when there is a visible curvature that denotes an extended stomach.

  • Waist

- The areas on either side of the abdomen. Parts of the lower back may also fall into this region. Although usage may vary, it generally refers to the area directly above the pelvic region. It often represents the narrowest part of the torso (See hourglass_figure, small_waist). It is also where love handles form if they are present.

Pelvis

The pelvis lies below the abdomen. This region is where the lower limbs attach to the body.

  • Crotch

- Part of the pelvic region, this is the area that contains a character's external genitalia. On either side of the crotch are the groin muscles, and there is a region above the genitals that does not yet have an established name on the site. For that region, it is okay to default to pelvis.

  • Hips

- Part of the pelvic region, the hips are usually located beneath the stomach / abdomen region bordering the thighs.

Related tags

Although multiple regions can be tagged for a single action, the area that has the most focus should be given priority. This tends to be the area where the most surface area is being covered or interacted with. See anatomy definitions if you are unsure about which anatomy tags to use.
