post #316352 post #1651584 post #1259583

Giraffids, also known as the Giraffidae, are a family of mammals that share a common ancestor with cervids and bovids. While once widely present, they are mostly extinct and only currently comprise of two genera: the giraffe and the okapi. Both live within Africa.

The most common physical features giraffids share include long, dark-coloured tongues, lobed canine teeth, and horns covered in fur skin and fur known as ossicones. Most also have slightly elongated or very long necks, as well as gangly legs.
