Exoskeletons, often found on insects and crustaceans, are external skeletons that supports and protect the creature that has it. They're often composed of chitin, a material seen in things such as fish scales. Aliens in popular media are commonly portrayed with external skeletons, such as the infamous xenomorphs.

Not to be confused with

  • body_armor - While often called "exoskeletons" casually, they are not the same as actual exoskeletons. They're artificially made hi-tech, often tighter fitting armors, whereas actual exoskeletons are a natural, external skeleton.
