The GS Ball is an infamous gold and silver Pokéball that was a MacGuffin in the Johto arc of the Pokémon anime. Ash and his friends had to take this special Pokéball that could not open nor could be transferred via PC to a man named Kurt in hopes that he would be able to open it. Although the ball was eventually given to him, it was never opened and promptly forgotten. According to a 2008 interview with Masamitsu Hidaka, the ball was supposed to contain a Celebi that was going to be the focus of an arc of the Johto saga, but it was later decided to make it the star of Pokémon 4Ever. As a result, the story arc was deemed redundant and was shelved. The ball was left with Kurt as the producers hoped that viewers would later forget about it.
