Species: dire wolf
The dire wolf (Aenocyon dirus) is an extinct species of prehistoric canine and was an avid competitor against the also extinct saber-toothed tiger. Despite the name, it was not a wolf.
In 2024 Colossal Biosciences, the same company behind the woolly mouse, claimed to "de-extinxt" the dire wolf. Through minor genetic modification of grey_wolf DNA, three cubs with supposed dire wolf traits were born. Despite the claims, they are genetically grey wolves, and are not an actual reemergence of the extict Aenocyon genus.
