Started in 2008, Housepets! is a webcomic created by artist Rick Griffin about a world where (most) animals are anthropomorphized, and pets often live like children alongside their human owners. At first, it centered around Peanut Butter the dog and Grape Jelly the cat as they went on slice-of-life adventures within the city of Babylon Gardens. However, the comic quickly grew in scope and ended up leaving Peanut and Grape as largely background characters as the focus switched to more dramatic story arcs and the characters involved in them, covering animal rights, life changing transformations, romance, interspecies romance, marriage, magic, gods, angels, heaven, hell, and demons.

As of December 2023 the main Housepets! story has been concluded after updating consistently for fifteen years. Rick has stated that, while he is not done forever with the Housepets! world and its characters, he is taking an extended break from it of indeterminate length while he focuses on other stories and projects and slowly recharges his largely burnt out enthusiasm for it, implying that when he does eventually return to Housepets! it will likely be in a very different format than it was before.
