Description
Yet another re-do of this classic image of mine. I liked v3 far better than v2, but as I didn't have the original lineart for v2 when I made v3, and I was too impatient to re-do the lines all over again, I simply copy/pasted the lines in the fully finished and unlayered version of v2 and used that as the "lineart layer" for v3. This made coloring that version a nightmare and a half, because the lines had a small red outline around them that made color filling more noticeable as color filling.
Also, though I loved how much I had improved the warrior killing the dragon couple, I didn't love that my own impatience with remaking the image had me go with the warrior being completely nude, and also because of how quickly I threw v3 together, I always felt that I got the warrior's proportions wrong.
As much as I loved The Real War of the Gods, v3 as a concept, I have always hated it as an artwork. So I've gone ahead and done what I regretted not doing in v3. I gave the warrior a Spartan-style armor setup minus the shield, I completely re-did the lineart with brand-new lineart layers. I improved the proportions and the anatomy of the warrior, as well as some of the anatomy of both dragons. I also changed the inset a bit so it wouldn't look like yet another copy/paste of the inset I used in v1-v3. I did keep the warrior's erection though I half-hid it inside the folds of his skirt so that it still sticks out prominently without being as obnoxiously in-your-face as it was in v3.
All in all, this is the picture that I wanted "The Real War of the Gods, v3" to be, but that I was too impatient to produce back then.
