MY PLACE s01:e20 - Bells
Setting that approval rating issue aside for the time being, I set off to earn some money.
Despite his condescending tone yesterday, Nook was right when he said that earning bells was easy. I had to start by selling fruit – mostly pears – to come up with enough to buy myself the necessary tools to catch bugs and fish. The store where I bought these, Nook’s Cranny, was run by two identical miniature clones of the sweater-clad racoon called Timmy and Tommy. Apparently, they were his nephews and owned the shop in question. I was unsure how to think about this; on one hand, what kind of uncle makes two little kids run a store? On the other hand, I wish my uncle gave me my own shop.
When it came to selling my catches, I soon discovered that ReTail was the way to go. It was a cute, pink building in the middle of Place owned by a married Alpaca couple, although the husband was asleep every time I popped by. The wife however, Reese, was especially kind and gentle. I had been getting used to the animals already, but she was especially easy to approach – very motherly and didn’t hesitate to help me get started.
I planned to visit Mr Nook today, but before I set foot in his establishment I was getting a change of clothes. Three butterflies and a sea bass later, I returned to the Able Sisters and grabbed the whatever normal clothing they had. A black t-shirt and blue trousers: good enough. I told Mable that she could keep the dress.
Tom was less than happy to see me, but I strolled into Nook’s Homes with a dirt-eating smirk on my face regardless.
“So…” I said as I entered “Had a change of heart, ey?”
“You are very lucky to have that secretary” he grunted “She persuaded me to take it easy on you and build the house before I got my bells. A free house. You understand how far she stretched my generosity, hm?”
Looks like someone’s watching over me.

“Well if it’ll cheer you up” I replied “I have started earning my own bells. I had to spend a few already to buy some tools and these new digs but I’m only a couple thousand away from 10g!”
Tom laughed, in a similar manner to our last encounter.
“Oh ho, ho… you owe me much more than just ten thousand now, mayor.”
I gulped.
“B-but you said…”
“Ten thousand for setting up the property, and 39,800 for the construction of the house. That brings you to just under 50,000 bells, Mayor. A mere trifle really, yes? Consider this your first loan… one of many, I’m sure. And no amount of Isabelles are getting you out of this one.”
Oh you son of a
“Fine. You’ll get your bells. Just how long do I have anyway?”
“You’ll be pleased to know that there’s no set schedule. You can pay at your own pace or whenever you’re able, hm?”
“I see…”

~Author’s Notes~
Long time no see, my fellow gamers.
The air in my life is clearing, so to speak, so I’m back on My Place again.
That doesn’t mean I’m going to be posting every day or anything like that, but I have at least two more already drawn for you to watch out for.
I wanted to get a lot of things out of the way with this one: buying tools, meeting Reese, changing clothes, Timmy and Tommy, the first loan etc. I’m eager to get through the “tutorial” stages of the series quickly so that I can start doing more unique storylines.
I don’t hate Tom Nook btw, I just don’t think he and “Mayor Cool Guy” would get alone so well.
