Luke Chueh vs. Seth McFarlane / The Family Guy
"BRIAN GRIFFIN"
12" x 12"
Acrylic + Ink
2006
NOTE: This piece was commissioned by 20th Century Fox to promote "The Family Guy", and will be on display at "Licensing International 2006", a trade show that will be held at Splashlight Studios, Manhattan the summer of 2006.
Artists were invited to reinterpret their favorite Family Guy character(s), and I chose to focus on Brian Griffin, the families alcoholic/intellectual talking dog.
NOTE 2: Yes, that is an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) symbol around his neck.
I added it to create a reason for Brian's forlorn expression
NOTE 3: When I created "Luke Chueh vs. The Family Guy - Brian Griffin" for the Family Guy artist series, this painting, as with all my other paintings, was never intended to be reproduced onto t-shirts. To do so cheapens the paintings in my eyes. But when you're working with a corporation like 20th Century Fox, they basically can do whatever they want with your work.
What kind of sucks was the fact that I learned about the t-shirt from a fan who emailed me a link to it on Hot Topic's website.
Fortunately I don't really feel strong connection to the painting since it's based around characters from The Family Guy television show (as opposed to characters I developed personally.) Also, whoever did the color separations for the shirt rocked it. The shirts look great.
