Now, that's fairly bare bones living, if I had the 1 mil, I'd probably spend more on food, and take the occasional vacation, but even accounting for that and inflation, I'd be comfortable with a retirement around 60-65.

Ohio's cost of living is actually quite low, nearly 40% lower than Cali, which is surprising considering it's the #7 most populous state.
If you want low cost of living, but don't want to live out in the middle of nowhere, consider Ohio.
Oh, and Ohio has tourist-y stuff too, if you really need it in the state you're living in.

Most banks don't pay out interest on that large of a lump sum in savings.
You'd have to buy CDs, Bonds, or invest in stocks pretty much.
Or open a whole lot of accounts at different banks.

Where it was raining for me, the rain barely reached an 2 inches and it wasn't continuous. Since we do have mountains and valleys, I can understand why there was some floods, mudslides, and evacuation. Most of the year (in Southern Cali), it's usually a clear 79°F during the day and a clear 63°F at night. So yes, the weather is peachy

The funny part is that the fridge I was talking about (i.e. the one in my LA motel room) literally had a temperature of 50.

Compared to LA, where I live is heaven.

I prefer somewhere in the 70-74 range temperature-wise.
I also prefer colder to warmer, you can always wear more and wrap up in more blankets if it's cold.

How dare you lol at Cali, my good sir! Cali has almost everything. From the snowy mountains of Big Bear, to one of the hottest places in the world known as Death Valley. The sandy beaches of Redondo to the forests of Yosemite National Park. From the calm suburbs to the busy streets of downtown Los Angeles. From the small peaceful towns to the papparazi filled Hollywood. Out here has so much to offer and I recommend anyone to come by for a visit of this wonderful state called California!

Here in Cali, the current minimum wage is $8.00/hr and will increase to $9.00/hr on July 1 and then to $10.10/yr in 2016 due to a recently passed bill. Currently, Cali has one the highest minimum wages in the US

Florida's better, it's always warm, tropical, sunny, fun to be outdoors, it's got disney land, tons of state parks, its got Universal Studios (islands of adventure as well) its even got cupholders!

Hey...Texas is pretty nice...
The food is quite awesome, and its one of those places where people one the street will tell you good morning and such...not just bums who want five dollars like in California.
I grew up in Los Angeles and lived through the king riots and the earthquakes. Hollywood isn't all it's cracked up to be, go there, I went this year to see family a day after the Grammys when they basically cleaned out Hollywood for the occasion and there were homeless people and trash everywhere. Other than rodeo drive and that small area, its all poverty.
I live in Texas now, and its really nice. We have a lot of jobs in engineering and the oil and gas industry, which pay really well. I mean if you go to college and pursue a useful major (like not art or ethnic studies etc) you're pretty certain to land a good paying job.
The weather in Texas is cool because if you don't like the weather at a certain point, just wait like 15 minutes and it'll change. We don't get all that many twisters unless you are in the middle of the panhandle, but no one really wants to live there, its just fields and plains.
Also what I really like about Texas is that it has a lot of Texas pride, like, a lot of the people in Texas like being in Texas.

I was born and raised in texas but lived there until I was 22 I live in Washington now and I have to say its so laid back I love it and I always prefirred a lot of rain I love getting wet and the sound it makes but I still miss Texas all the same

Hm... Jag F type for my normal driving, 2015 F-150 quad cab 4X4 for friends or cargo, nice 2 br/2ba house with decent furnishings.. That's up to about $275-280K? Set aside another $10K for a sickening closet of clothes. For future stability, I'd then go to university for a business degree and buy or start a business. $800K or so spent.. Half of that in savings for myself, family or friends, then the other half invested.

Sorry, I will stick with my Disneyland and CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE annual passes I have, maybe I will go to knotts berry farm, I mean you have that as well, right?
